Castleward

The collection of stainless steel and bronze art chairs, created by artists Denis O’Connor and Bernadine Rutter of Sculpture Works, were commissioned by house builder Compendium Living, to give the area a new identity, creating a visual trail for residents, visitors and commuters; contributing to creating a vibrant city centre for Derby. Chairs can be found along the Liversage Street boulevard starting from the entrance to Intu to the Station, via the Liversage Square public open space.

The artwork titled Revealing Castleward makes reference to the city’s industrial hub and the working community from the area. The public art was designed, funded and installed as part of the Planning Agreement (Section 106) with Compendium Living. The seat design and installation was carried out in consultation with the Council’s Equality and Diversity Officer and the Highways department to ensure they were accessible and positioned with Highways compliance.”
